The wind power technician role is a critical position responsible for diagnosing, maintaining, and repairing wind turbine generators and control systems. This position involves working at heights, performing complex electrical and mechanical troubleshooting, and traveling extensively to support wind farm operations across the country. Key Responsibilities

As a wind power technician, you will:

  • Have to diagnose problems involving wind turbine generators and control systems. Have to climb wind turbine towers to inspect, maintain, or repair equipment.
  • Need to test electrical components of wind systems using devices such as voltage testers, multimeters, oscilloscopes, infrared testers, and fiber optic equipment.
  • Need to start or restart wind turbine generator systems to ensure proper operation. Need to troubleshoot and repair mechanical, hydraulic, or electrical malfunctions related to variable pitch systems, variable speed control systems, converter systems, or related components.
  • Have to maintain tool and spare parts inventories required for repair, installation, or replacement services.
  • Need to perform routine maintenance on wind turbine equipment, underground transmission systems, wind farm substations, and fiber optic sensing and control systems.
  • Need test structures, controls, and systems according to test plans or in coordination with engineers.
  • Need to collect turbine performance data for testing, research, and analysis.
  • Need to inspect or repair fiberglass turbine blades.
  • Need to train end-users, distributors, installers, or other technicians in wind commissioning and technical procedures.
  • Need to assist in assembling wind generators or constructing wind farms.
  • Need operate manufacturing equipment to fabricate wind turbine components. need to repair other green energy equipment or systems as required.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma / GED.
  • Need a valid driver’s license (required to operate company vehicle).
  • Have the ability to pass a background check and drug screening.
  • Have the ability to travel 100% for work.
  • Have to be comfortable working at heights exceeding 200 feet and in all weather conditions.
  • Need strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills in mechanical and electrical systems.

Preferred:

  • GWO BST (Basic Safety Training) and ART (Advanced Rescue Training) certification.
  • Experience as a wind power technician, wind turbine technician, or in a related mechanical/electrical field.
  • Knowledge of SCADA systems, OSHA standards, and renewable energy operations.
