How to become a wind turbine technician

To be a successful technician, in this intermediate level position, you will be required to use your skills and training to perform maintenance and/or installation work on assigned wind turbines with minimal supervision. You will be provided with specific schedules and procedures, including safety protocols, verbal/written instructions, but you will also be required to provide mentoring to entry-level technicians.

On a typical day, you may work up to 250 feet above the ground, or in small spaces to perform maintenance and repairs. Being a roofer in the field may require you to be outdoors, and sometimes when the weather is not good you will be climbing, carrying tools and equipment, and moving parts to get your job done.

AECOM is seeking a Senior Project Manager to join its Eastern Region Environmental Planning and Permitting (EPP) practice in the Mid-Atlantic EPP department. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in managing environmental permitting projects, particularly within the offshore wind (OSW) market for energy clients. The successful candidate will collaborate with AECOM’s EPP specialists across the United States to ensure successful project delivery.

Applications are welcome from candidates in any of the Mid-Atlantic regional offices, including but not limited to: Baltimore, MD; Germantown, MD; Conshohocken, PA; Arlington, VA; Norfolk, VA; and the District of Columbia.

Senior Offshore Wind Project Manager Responsibilities:

  • Lead, manage and supervise staff and projects managed by those reporting directly to you.
  • Must have the ability to manage and execute consulting projects within scope, schedule and budget while learning and utilizing AECOM’s project management systems and software. In that case, the candidate will complete AECOM’s internal project management certification program within the first year of employment.
  • Must have the ability to coordinate and lead multidisciplinary project teams in the preparation of local, state and federal permitting processes for offshore wind energy projects. Requires focus on permit applications, BOEM site assessments and technical studies including construction and operation plans, environmental impact statements and terrestrial and marine surveys.

  • 10+ years of experience in relevant industry preferred.
  • Strong understanding of regulatory and studies for interconnection and landfall.

  • Must have experience negotiating with regulators and stakeholders
  • Must have extensive working knowledge of CWA, ESA, NHPA, NEPA, FERC, and other federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Must have proven experience managing teams and assigning staff and resources to ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget.
  • Experience preparing proposals, cost estimates, schedules, and change orders.
  • PMP or other project management certification a plus; candidate must complete AECOM Project Management certification.
  • Proven experience managing projects, interdisciplinary teams, and workloads, with proven client interfacing skills.
  • Highly self-motivated, able to work independently and in a team-oriented environment with minimal supervision.

Senior Production Manager Responsibilities:

Leadership & Strategy

  • Develop and implement strategic production plans, focusing on efficiency, profitability, and resource optimization.
  • Create a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement within production teams.

 Production Operations & Process Improvement

  • Implement cost-saving initiatives, including supplier negotiations, process automation, and waste reduction.

 Safety, Compliance & Quality Control

  • Ensure full compliance with OSHA, EPA, and other industry regulations for workplace safety and environmental standards.
  • Oversee proper handling, storage, disposal, and transport of hazardous materials and waste, adhering to state and federal regulations.
  • Coordinate emergency response initiatives related to hazardous materials and workplace safety.
  • Maintain detailed documentation of safety protocols, audits, and compliance reports.

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a relevant field (or equivalent experience).
  • 6+ years of progressive leadership experience in manufacturing, production, or process industries.

Competencies:

  • Advanced understanding of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and process improvement methodologies.
