About the Role

You Will: As a Wind Solar Collection Systems Engineer You: As a Wind Solar Collection Systems Engineer Have: At least 5 years of practical experience working as a Systems Engineer on multiple wind and solar projects Languages You: As a Wind Solar Collection Systems Engineer Work: As a Wind Solar Collection Systems Engineer, you’ll be a key member of a interdisciplinary team. You’ll build, analyze and manage DC and AC solar collection systems, wind turbine electrical network, power plant controllers and energy storage integration project. Your role will span all the way from technical leadership and mentoring to interacting with clients and coordinating regulatory work.

Projects will be spread across utility-scale wind farms, solar photovoltaic projects, hybrid energy storage systems and others.

Wind Energy Systems Engineer Responsibilities

Create and refine electronics designs for wind and solar collection systems (DC/AC).

Develop power plant controller diagrams, arrangements, and integration plans.

Description Lead renewable energy systems feasibility studies, cost estimates, engineering analysis.

Lead and mentor a team of junior engineers and technical staff.

Interpret and comply with codes, standards (NEC, IEEE, IEC) and regulations.

Prepare and review specifications, technical reports and construction documents.

Perform field inspections, testing, and startup (as required).

Work closely with internal and external stakeholders including utilities, developers and government agencies.

Prepare presentations to clients and assist in the development of proposals and projects.

Minimum Qualifications For Solar Collection System Designer

Electrical Engineering (ABET-accredited) Bachelor’s Degree.

At least 5 years of experience with electrical system design for renewable generation projects.

DC/AC collection system layout and design knowledge and experience.

Experience in power plant controllers and associated software/firmware.

Experience with electrical codes and interconnection.

Advanced skills in Microsoft Office and engineering software.

PE license or the capacity to get it within 12 months.

Current driver’s license and U.S. employment are required.

How to be A Wind Solar Collection Systems Engineer

10+ years of relevant experience.

Good understanding of collection system studies: Ampacity, Short Circuit, Grounding, Harmonics, and Transient Overvoltage.

Past project experience using Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) and Hybrid Renewable plants.

Experience in simulation/analysis tools (e.g. PVsyst, Windographer, HOMER, DIgSILENT PowerFactory).

Proficient with solar resource assessment, wind data analysis, and net energy production forecasting.

AutoCAD, Revit, or other design software experience.

Excellent organisational, team management and client relationship development skills.

Remote & Hybrid Options

This role can be based from either Barr’s offices in:

Duluth, Minneapolis, or Hibbing, MN

Denver – Fort Collins – Wheat Ridge, CO

Ann Arbor or Grand Rapids, MI

Remote work options will be available for highly-qualified candidates. Work may at times require short out-of-town assignments or client site visits.
