A major renewable energy developer is looking for a senior wind operations engineer to join their operations engineering team. This position provides the opportunity to work in the area of electrical systems performance, reliability improvements, and root cause investigations, which directly influence the health and productivity of 47 onshore wind sites in North America.
This role combines remote work with on-site work and office-based strategic engineering. Candidates will work closely with the best and brightest developers to impact the performance of wind turbines, mentor smaller engineers, and guide industry-leading operational toolsets.

Hybrid Wind Operations Engineer Renewable Energy Key Responsibilities
As a Senior Wind Operations Engineer, you will:
Electrical Systems Management
Monitor and evaluate the performance of generators, converters, transformers and control systems on wind assets.
Perform technical due diligence on transitioning projects and data intelligence gathering.
Maintain turbine grid code and eth software upload process.
Failure Analysis & Origin and Cause Investigations
Lead the resolution of root cause analysis of OPC electrical systems failures.
Assess risk and criticality of component failures and initiate corrective action plans.
Work with OEMs and third party consultants to troubleshoot issues.
Reliability & Performance Optimization
Develop and mature component repair, reconditioning, and reliability upgrade specifications.
Supporting R&D efforts for new equipment and operational best practices.
Performing site visits for troubleshooting, inspections, and technical support.
Leadership & Mentoring
Mentor and train junior engineers to increase team knowledge.
Work with operations, asset management and project teams to enable uninterrupted site level engineering support.
Work on team metrics, optimizations of performance and strategic operations.
Qualifications for A Senior Wind Operations Engineer Chicago IL Hybrid
- Education: B.S.E.E or related field required (M.S. preferred).
- Experience: At least 8 years of experience in electrical engineering, preferably in the area of wind energy.
- Technical Skills:
Utility-scale wind turbine systems and component knowledge.
Demonstrated skill in Root Cause Analysis, component specification and supplier interaction.
Experience with industry standards, grid compliances and data analytics tools.
- Professional Skills:
Strong organization, communication, and leadership abilities.
Can balance between in office engineering and site field work.
Strong skillset in Microsoft Office and collaborative tools (Teams, SharePoint etc.).
