About the Role
The Blades group within the turbine engineering department is a fundamental team to the success of Vestas. In addition to helping ongoing service and maintenance efforts with existing blade technology, this team works on novel solutions for new blade upgrades, repairs, and future product design.
The scope of your work as Lead Engineer, Blades will cover advanced technical analyses, field issue resolution and collaboration across functions. This means that this is an area where engineering meets talking to customers and it satisfies both of my desires, technical precision and effective communication.
Wind Turbine Blade Engineer Key Responsibilities
Technical Engineering Support
- Directly engage in the development of new technology through project management including tooling and material development, blade processes that could have significant impact on Aerosystems future.
- Take part in failure analysis for commercial decisions and service contract planning.
- Assist in new product development and continuous improvement endeavors of Vestas R&D teams.
- Create comprehensive technical specifications, research reports and engineering documentation.
- Perform fatigue analysis, minimum maintenance requirements evaluation, blade performance reviews and develop repair strategies.
Customer & Stakeholder Engagement
- Act as primary technical contact for customers, vendor and sub-contractors.
- Expertise with blade technology present in industry events and conferences
- Help process blade install RFI’s around construction or transport.
- Provide end-to-end customer communication and damage assessment reports including repair recommendations
Operations & Field Support
- Offer onsite and remote tech support in blade check out and repair.
- Prepare root cause analysis, FMEA and reliability modelling.
- Create new repair methods, inspection standards, and maintenance plans.
- Blade Tooling, Up-tower Repair & Advanced Service Support to Operational teams.
Cross-Functional & Project Leadership
- sign and manage test plans to improve product quality.
- Betterment TimeLine Coordinate CIM (Component Improvement Management) activity with a global team.
- Manage maintain and Improve region specific techdoc
- Continuous improvement in blade performance and serviceability.
Required Qualifications for Lead Engineer Blades Jobs, Texas
- B.A.Sc in Mechanical or Materials Engineering (other engineering disciplines pertaining to experience will be considered).
- Preferred Qualifications: Master’s degree in Mechanical, Polymer or Chemical Engineering.
- Background in blade design and construction, based on glass or carbon fiber.
- 2 to 5 years of relevant engineering experience with a focus on problem resolution
Competencies
- Excellent multitasker in a fast-paced environment with impeccable organizational skills.
- Strong writing, editing and verbal communication skills.
- MS Office, AutoCAD, ProE (2D/3D modeling skills preferred).
- Experience reparing wood and glass/carbon structural problems on wind turbine blades.
- Discipline of problem-solving (8D, DMAIC etc.).
- Engineering and field service operations experience in project management.
- An advantage if you have prior experience with FEA modeling tools.
